2017 Teen Advocacy Coalition After Prom Party
Construction Class Participates in 2017 CTE Showcase of SkillsSouth Bend High School's construction class is participating in the 2017 CTE (Career & Technical Education) Showcase of Skills. Under the teaching and instruction of South Bend teacher Ryan McMurry, South Bend students will join other secondary and post-secondary students from across the state in a one-day competition at the Washington Capitol in Olympia.
These types of projects are not new to the South Bend construction program. Under Mr. McMurry's instruction, his students have constructed homes for Habitat for Humanity, helped with construction on the new Grace Community Church, provide numerous small construction projects in the community, and are currently working on a building for the Pacific County Historical Society.
It is important for students to put their learned skills to work. This experience allows our kids to learn in a hands-on manner while providing a needed service to our community. |
In all, 25 teams received a grant to participate in the competition. South Bend's team is building energy-efficient, portable, homeless shelters. The competition will highlight skills learned in South Bend's construction program, and includes all aspects of construction. When complete, 25 of these "tiny homes" will be put to immediate use throughout Washington State.

Willapa Harbor Regional Business Week - Huge Success Once Again!
March 27th marked the culmination of the 7th success year of Business week for juniors from Willapa Valley, South Bend and Raymond. A huge appreciation goes out to all the volunteers and community support that made this a success - especially the committee chair, Ian Farrell, and the company advisers. This year nine teams competed in a business simulation experience and in developing and marketing an innovative product.
Willapa Harbor Regional Business Week prepares high school students to make informed choices related to future academic and career opportunities. The week long program pairs business leaders and educators (as student team mentors) to facilitate hands-on learning experiences for student teams. Students learn about themselves and careers and experience a variety of business principles including leadership, teamwork, ethics, communications, critical thinking as well as other life skills that support success as individuals and community leaders. Plus it is fun for everyone involved! |
